NYCC 2008 - Interview with Least I Could Do guys

LICD Banner

We talked to them at the con last week and the interview is finally up. Towards the end their was a slight jitter on the tape. This is by far one of the funniest I think I’ve done, so check it out after the jump. And much apologies to Lar, for calling him Lars. He is not Swedish, but don’t hold that against him.

“Does Anyone Know Sarah Paisner?” – Written by Jennifer Lane

02/27/08 – New York Theater – 7:00 PM – Runtime 1 hour 15 minutes

2 ¼ out of 4 Stars

Based on the premise of a woman who is escaping her old life by reinventing her identity, “Does Anybody Know Sarah Paisner” tries very hard to give us a feeling of the gritty and often insane subculture of Internet dating, message boards, and chat rooms, and the psychopathic games that often are played in the anonymity that is afforded to those who can afford a computer and an Internet connection. Starting out in Ginger and Ella’s apartment, we are given a rapid and often confusing, though masterfully staged glimpse into the mental psychosis of a young woman trying to find a new identity amongst the virtual noise of the cyber world while trying to escape a past and an identity she would rather leave behind. Definitely not for younger audiences, (can a play receive an NC17 rating?), this saucy and unapologetic play runs the gamut from comedic to truly macabre while showcasing some truly wonderful acting talent. BET Rip the Runway 2007 Impressions

The night started off pretty bad. I got to the event in New York at the Hammerstein Ballroom on time only to be told that I couldn’t get in with my original pass. Apparently they changed the attendee info at the last minute to armbands or some nonsense and the original passes given out by email were no good. But after calling a few people and fortunately knowing the right people, my friend and I got in to the event. With production passes no less! Read the rest of this entry »

Urban Superteens: WildSeed

Wild Seed Cover #0

At the NY comic con this year, I was handed two issues of WildSeed as I passed the Urban Voice in Comics booth.

WildSeed, (no relation to Octavia Butler’s book of the same name) written by Ron King, illustrated by Abdul Rashad, is an up-and-coming comic title published by KIAH Entertainment. At times the art felt as though Rashad is still in the process fine-tuning his style, but nevertheless, both issues are solid and well-executed with plenty of visual entertainment.

The story features five teens with supernormal abilities, on the run from a government agency that wants to contain them. Exposure to a highly advanced virus caused their current condition, and while they desperately want a return to normality, the government agency can’t be trusted to give that to them – no one can.

One is a would-be cheerleader, one is a drug dealer, another is a rock star wannabe, two are just high school students trying to get by, and now all five have to work together to survive. Their families are missing. They’re broke. They’re being hunted. And they may be dying.
