Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Review – A Fractured House

Hydra attempted to push back against S.H.I.E.L.D. in the most recent episode A Fractured House.

A group of Hydra agents disguised as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents attacked Capital Hill with a unique weapon that acts just as the Diviner does to its victims. There were a few deaths and some injured during this attack. General Talbot was one of the people injured though I am not sure how he got hurt. Most likely he ran into a wall knocking himself out in comedic fashion. With this attack being pinned on S.H.I.E.L.D. this of course did not sit well with Coulson and his team. Enter new addition to the team Bobbi Morse who he sends on a mission with May and Lance.

On this mission Bobbi and crew are sent to meet with a group Bobbi dealt with when “working” for Hydra. The group she is meeting with does not know she is no longer Hydra although they did hear rumors of her being S.H.I.E.L.D. now. Before things went wrong and her cover was blown she was able to extract all the necessary information on this weapon and the team that is posing as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. She was then saved by Lance and May as they breezed through these thugs in no time.

Back at home base Ward is trying to convince Skye into letting him out so he can do whatever it is he wants to do but Coulson has other plans for Ward. Coulson struck a deal with Wards brother who is a Senator into giving Ward up for clearing the S.H.I.E.L.D. name. Ward says a bunch of lies (or truths) to both Skye and Coulson trying to get himself out of this deal but to no avail it does not work. I believe Ward to the point that he says his brother is a liar and a manipulator but I have an itching suspicion that Coulson is playing them both.

In the final showdown of  A Fractured House Bobbi, May and Lance take down the Hydra agents pretty easily and hand them off to General Talbot. He is now on the same page as S.H.I.E.L.D. seeing they have a common enemy in Hydra. Back at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters Ward is being passed off to the FBI and they are warned before leaving by Coulson that he is a dangerous man. We of course see how dangerous as he works his way out of the cuffs, takes out the FBI agents and is now doing whatever it is Ward wants to do.

This weeks episode was definitely the weakest of season 2 but that’s not saying it wasn’t good. There was some good to take away here. For one we had some good fight scenes again, like last week and the week prior. They also turned Fitz and Simmons relationship into a complicated mess. Revealing that Fitz worsens when she is around him, stunting his progress. I’m hopeful they have an interesting plan on where they want to take this story line. There was also how they closed out the episode with an unnamed man covered in tattoos that is the alien map.

With the good take away from this episode I did have some issues as well. For one the FBI is fully aware Ward is a dangerous man yet they don’t take the most extreme precautions necessary. Once they got him in the paddy wagon, they removed his black hood and left him with just his wrists cuffed. I guess they missed Coulson’s warning that this man is dangerous. I’ve seen far less dangerous people have much more drastic precautions taken against them. Another issue I have is the little to no use out of Triplett. The past few episodes we’ve gotten one to two head nods from him and that’s about it. Hopefully they bring him back into the fold soon as he is a good character.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs 9PM EST Tuesday nights on ABC.
