Iron Man the Movie Series 1 Figures Review
Movie figures are starting to come out. So lets talk about them eh?
Iron Man Mark 1 is where it all starts. Tony Stark builds this armor to help him escape terrorists and save his own life due to the piece of metal slowly cutting deeper and deeper towards his heart.
The sculpt of this figure is good and it relates a very real world idea of what this bulky primitive scrap metal armor could look like built in the same situation. Not much can be said for the paint job as its just silver but the size of the arms and legs do give it a look of walking tank more then the sleek fashionable look that the Mark 2 and Mark 3 will receive.
Iron Man Mark 3 is probably the closest rendition to current iron Man in the comic books and looks exactly like what we have seen pictures of for the movie.
First, let me just say, its a nice figure. Its got a good sculpt, its got a very realistic metallic paint job, an awesome red and gold and loads of joints to pose this Iron Man in multiple ways for sure. Couple grievances I have with it though.
Not enough articulation being one. Its not a major one, there are dozens of Iron Man figures out there with plenty, but I feel like the hands at the least could have done with more instead of static fingers. Also, the mask of the figure is not removable. I’m quite used to being able to see Tony Stark’s face under the mask of the iron Man helmet by lifting it off. I assume because, A) they have another figure in the line that has partially removable armor and faceplate they felt that was good enough for the people who want to see his face and B) maybe with the fact they are going to be trying to interest children into wanting these toys they didn’t want all the kids at home losing Iron Man’s faceplate in less than 24 hours.
A minor issue with this figure is the scale. But it is minor, they Iron Men figures in this set are all smaller than the Iron Men already made. Why? No idea. Not massively smaller, maybe a head, maybe half a head shorter, but just seems odd if you wanted to stand them next to your other legends. I’m not sure why the difference but it does seem like a silly one. Perhaps the companies stand to make more money buy shrinking the movie figure, I don’t know.
Last is the Iron Monger, a nemesis for Tony Stark in Obidiah Stane, with his own make shift armor to combat Iron Man. I like the Iron Monger armor and figure and while it doesn’t have a lot of articulation it looks good and kinda gritty compared to Iron Man’s armor. Not as gritty as the Mark 1, but nowhere near as sleek the Mark 3. The paint is good, well at least as good as a bland gray can be.
Main complaint comes down to the scale when put next to older or current Marvel Legends. The Monger is big, but not as huge as I would imagine, I would think closer to Hulk size, but again at least it is bigger then the regular toys and Iron Mans which is what matters.
The movie figures aren’t as good as the Legends but they are a good alternative, and much better than the Hulk, Spider-Man 3, or Superman Returns. So if you like Tony Stark, get em.
