Figure Review Friday - Bruce Wayne to Batman
Figure Review Friday - Bruce Wayne to Batman
November 9th, 2007
The first Figure Review Friday sees us taking a look at th DC Superheroes line by Mattel Series 3 Bruce Wayne to Batman figure. This is one of the last figures I believe before the Superman/Batman line of Mattel’s DC Toys turns into the upcoming DC Universe figures which look to DC’s answer to Marvel Legends.
First off, I like and dislike this figure. I like the idea of a Bruce Wayne figure being made, specially for me making an action figure comic. But here’s my problem.
It seems because he is a Bruce Wayne figure they assumed he would automatically not sell well and therefore not be worth wasting articulation on. The articulation on this figure doesn’t even match the other figures in this set. Its a total throwback to figures during the early nineties who could only raise there legs 90 degrees, except here he also bends his knees. The armsalso only rotate in a circle like those early toys as well, so not a lot of posing there.
The best part about this figure is the head seems to drop down allowing you to attach a Batman in almost cybernetic armor to the top. He also comes with detachable boots, gloves and a utility belt in the same style as the cowl. So you put all that on him and you can either get a cyber Batman or a Bruce Wayne in battle gear, which is kinda nifty.
On a scale of 3 out of 5 with 5 being the best, I give the figure a 3. Its not a bad sculpt in any way and the overall idea was good, but the execution with this old early 90s style figure is poor. I expect more from toy makers now. Articulation is key and so many toys come with removable heads and limbs that this could still have been done as a much better figure. Maybe in the DC Universe line it will be. So buy it if you need Bruce Wayne but if you can wait do so and see what happens.
