BET Rip the Runway 2007 Impressions

The night started off pretty bad. I got to the event in New York at the Hammerstein Ballroom on time only to be told that I couldn’t get in with my original pass. Apparently they changed the attendee info at the last minute to armbands or some nonsense and the original passes given out by email were no good. But after calling a few people and fortunately knowing the right people, my friend and I got in to the event. With production passes no less!

Walking into the Hammerstein Ballroom was a sight to see. It was bright colors, different celebrities walking around and just a big crowd of people around the runway. Being that we had production passes we went backstage to see how things were going up to the last minute. We got to witness the chaos of everything backstage. Models were getting into their clothes and people getting their hair and makeup done. So after a brief little tour I went to my seat up in the balcony where the stars were sitting.

That’s where I saw the comedian Little JJ just chillin’ with his people. 15 minutes later the first act was cued on stage and the show began with rapper Rich Boy. His performance got the crowd hype and ready for the show. Finally the hosts of this year’s “Rip the Runway,” Chris Brown and Ciara, came out and delivered the opening messages. After that we saw all kinds of fashion from the Steve Harvey collection to Baby Phat. Other designers such as LRG, Apple Bottoms, Monif C., Brand Jordan, and G-unit were also featured.

There were several appearances by stars such as 50 Cent, Paul Wall, Jermaine Dupree, Jim Jones, Russell Simmons, Tocara, Tyrese, Brooke Hogan, and even Delicious from the show “Flavor of Love.” Some of the stars even ripped the runway themselves modeling some of the fashions. Overall the night was a success, especially after all the great performances from today’s top RNB and Rap sensations like Musiq Soulchild, Lloyd, Paul Wall, and Legendary rapper Rakim. I must say it may have been my first fashion show, but it definitely won’t be my last. I had a ball watching all the beautiful models Rip the Runway BET style.

If you’re into hip hop and clothes, tune in tomorrow night at 10pm Eastern time on BET.
