“Evil Dead the Musical”…yes, I said musical.

[thumb:12:l]Let it never be said we on the East Coast and in NY don’t do weird well. While I have a long -standing gripe with New York as a whole, they’re stealing away the Nets to Brooklyn in a few years, both their football teams still play in Jersey and we don’t have one, and Staten Island is being a part of New York when really it should be Jersey, but I nearly silently tolerate it because Manhattan has theater. On and Off Broadway that is awesome and crazy. And being that this show is Off Broadway, ticket prices are lower then ones on Broadway, and even cheaper if you hit up a site like BroadwayBox.com like I did, and get yourself a discounted rate.
Evil Dead: The Musical seems to combine the first two Evil Dead movies into one big show. Having never seen any of the Evil Dead movies besides Army of Darkness, I was familiar with the character of Ash and Bruce Campbell and some of the things he’s been in but the first two Evil Deads remain a bit of a mystery for me.

First, the music is ridiculous, it’s hilarious. When you hear songs like “Cabin In The Woods,” “All the Men In My Life Get Killed By Candarrian Demons,” and “Do The Necronomican,” you wonder what drug a person would have to be under the influence of to come up with such a song. And more so, where can you get some? A few of the songs can be heard here, at the show’s official myspace.

But Evil Dead: The Musical boasts a cast of On and Off Broadway veterans, cheap seats in a fairly modern theater, and as they warn, if, you grab a seat in the first three rows you have effectively sat yourself in the “splatter zone.” The two gents below found themselves in the Splatter Zone for the show my friend and I attended. [thumb:10:l] [thumb:9:l] We were in the 5th row, so unfortunately while I was close enough to see the wanton zombie slashing and gore fest really get going in the 2nd half of the show, I was not close enough to really get gored.

Evil Dead is fun. If you like cheesy horror movies, check it out, this one is live. If you like over the top over the top musicals this one is for sure. And if you don’t mind swearing and violence and crude language in your songs, go see Evil Dead, cause good, bad, this show has the guy with the gun.
