The Holiday

Published on December 18th, 2006

That’s right. I saw it. Saturday night. Found myself buddy-less and without any to hang with so I took my mom to the movies since my father was busy. And you know what? I enjoyed the damn movie. I really did. So if you want to read a review click the link and I’ll tell you what I think about this chick flick I willingly saw. :P

So here’s the gist of the movie. Amanda, a big time Hollywood trailer maker from LA, played by Cameron Diaz, finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her and kicks him out. Her life in a mess, unable to relax, she starts to look to get away and finds a site called Home Exchange and soon enough agrees to swap homes with a woman from London named Iris, played by Kate Winslet.

Iris, on the other side of the pond, is having relationship woes herself, having found out that Jasper, the man she has worked with and been in love with for three years, is getting married but still wants to see her on the side as the other woman. Devastated, when the offer to leave and stop thinking about him comes along she jumps at it, hoping for the best.

Both hop on a plane, ending up in each other’s town and each others homes making the best, of their bad situations over the holidays – Amanda meets Iris’ brother, played by Jude Law. And Iris meets Miles, her ex-boyfriends composer associate, played by Jack Black.

It’s a chick flick. It’s girlie and in some ways sappy. But it is funny, it does have Jack Black and Cameron Diaz giving decent comedic performances, and Kate Winslet and Jude Law doing a good job themselves. If you got a chick, female friend, or mother that you can take, go see it. You might like it and both the main women aren’t bad to look at.

And if you don’t….go midday to an early matinée. I won’t tell.
